I bought new front axles to put on my Outback yesterday so I started disassembling things last night. I'm stuck right now cause I can't push the axle out of the wheel hub on the driver's side.

Hopefully my images upright themselves. The axle will pull out of the transmission just fine (pictured below), but I can't for the life of me push it out of the hub.

This is the back of the wheel hub where the axle slides through. I PB blasted the fuck out of both sides but the thing won't budge at all.

What should I do?

BFH. Take the axle out of the trans side, and hammer that shit out of the knuckle.

Also, might have had more room if you'd taken it apart at the balljoint and not the strut.

But since the axle is bad, just whack it out. Don't mushroom the tip TOO much though, or it won't fit through the hole. But I'd imagine a few good smacks should get it to pop out.

I've tried hammering the shit out of it. I put the axle nut on slightly as to not mushroom the axle itself and I've been mashing it with a dead blow hammer for an hour and it won't budge.

get a bigger hammer. Bolt it back to the strut so you have something more resistant to hit against.

Shit, I totally forgot to make an update post!

It finally came out! I screwed the axle nut on just about one turn, taped the 32mm socket on top of it and whacked the shit out of it with a 12 pound Collins Splitting Maul haha It took a few whacks but eventually popped out of the hub.

The passenger's side slid out without any problem!
